Sarah Richardson was baptized at Charlestown, Massachusetts, on 22 November 1640. She was the second child of Thomas Richardson and his wife Mary. Two weeks before her baptism, on 5 November, her father had been chosen one of seven commissioners to begin the settlement of a new town to the north. That town became Woburn, and the family moved there. Her father's brothers Ezekiel and Samuel Richardson were among its founders, and so were two cousins, Francis and John Wyman.

She grew up in Woburn with an elder sister, Mary, and five younger brothers and sisters: Isaac, Thomas, Ruth, Phebe and Nathaniel. Her father died on 28 August 1651, when she was ten. He left no will. The men who took his inventory listed four oxen, five cows, a mare, eight swine, four flitches of bacon and ten pieces of pewter.

In May 1655 her sister Mary married John Baldwin of Billerica. On 26 October 1655 her mother married Michael Bacon, a widower of two months and one of Woburn's first inhabitants. His only son, Michael, was nine months older than Sarah.

On 22 March 1660 Sarah married Michael Bacon the younger. Their first four children were recorded at Woburn: Mary in 1661, Sarah in 1663, Abigail in 1666/7, and a son Michael. Her mother died on 19 May 1670. By 1672 the family was at Billerica, where six more children were born: Jonathan, Nathaniel, Josiah, Ruth, Benjamin and Joseph. In 1682 her husband bought the five hundred acre Mitchell farm on the Shawsheen River.

Sarah died on 15 August 1694, aged fifty three. Her husband outlived her.
