Sarah Thaxter
Sarah Thaxter was born at Hingham, Massachusetts, on 16 November 1668, a daughter of Samuel Thaxter, a cordwainer, and his first wife Abigail Church. Her mother was a granddaughter of Richard Warren of the Mayflower. Of the seven children her mother bore, Sarah and her brother David were the only two who lived past infancy. Her mother died on Christmas Day 1677, when Sarah was nine, and her father married Deborah Lincoln the next June. On 25 March 1691 she married Peter Dunbar, a son of Robert Dunbar, "a Scotchman", of Hingham.
Her first child, Abigail, was born at Hingham on 4 December 1691. Sarah was born at Weymouth on 26 June 1693. James followed in 1694, Leah in 1697, who died in 1699, Elisha in 1699, Peter in 1701 and Samuel in 1704. Samuel went to Harvard and became the minister of Stoughton.
About 1706 the family moved to Bridgewater, where her husband bought a place of Jacob Leonard. Mitchell's history of Bridgewater names her there as "his wife, Sarah" and adds three more children: Josiah in 1706, John in 1709 and David in 1711. In 1711 her eldest, Abigail, married Joshua Fobes of Bridgewater. Her death is not recorded.
