Warren William Conklin was born on 15 June 1852 in Commack, Suffolk County, New York. His memorial names his parents as Whitman P. Conklin (1821-1901) and Mary Elizabeth Brown Conklin (1824-1912).
As a young man he is said to have worked as a cook on a whaling ship sailing out of Sag Harbor. He later managed the farm at Kings Park State Hospital, the large state psychiatric hospital at Kings Park, and lived on Meadow Road. The hospital farm grew food for its patients and staff.
He married Ida Augusta "Gussie" Darling. They had eight children: Wilford W. Conklin (1879-1890), Ivison D. Conklin (1881-1967), Jesse Elias Conklin (1885-1970), Florence Augusta Conklin Bischoff (1889-1980), Lillian Adella Conklin Farley (1893-1933), Mary Elizabeth Conklin Donnelly (1895-1943), Ida Mae Conklin Fairchild (1897-1972) and Martha Conklin Conway (1898-1986). Their son Wilford died as a child.
Warren died in Kings Park on 23 September 1930, aged 78. He is buried in Landing Cemetery, Smithtown, under a stone he shares with Ida.
